Earthly Perseids

Series of sun-printed Cyanotypes on paper, various dimensions, 2024

‘Earthly Perseids’ is an ongoing series of images created with a mixture of ferric ammonium oxalate and potassium ferricyanide, and direct sunlight.

They depict tiny individual stones and pieces of debris and dross that Gov has been collecting in construction sites and abandoned houses in different parts of the world, residues of crumbling realities on the way to be demolished. The title of the work refers to Perseids, a prolific meteor shower usually visible between mid-July to late-August, the time of the year in which the photographed stones were collected.

Photographed individually, enlarged drastically and sun-printed on paper, the small shards metamorphose into monochromatic meteorites, glaciers, stars, islands – intricate and multifaceted landscapes of human existence and habitat, remnants of a life that no longer exists.

Each of the Earthly Perseids is accompanied by the exact coordinates in which the original stone was found.
